Everybody who follows me knows my strong support of social distancing and the wearing of masks. I have posted examples of COVIDIOTS that have hit the public domain and have been vetted by news organizations while refraining from publishing more local examples of behaviors that I feel endanger others that have not been thoroughly investigated.
As a consequence, the publishing of surf cam footage by Councilwoman Schumacher as a means to shame an officer the other day is something I find very wrong. Trying a person in the kangaroo court of the Cori-centric social media is something I find profoundly wrong when it's obvious we do not have every fact.

The Councilwoman claims to be deaf in one ear. I have my own hearing loss from years helping to promote concerts, I have friends who never learned sign language because few people understand sign language. They were taught to be able to read lips. With everyone wearing masks, it's hard for the deaf to communicate with anyone. Cori (or any of us) do not know if the officer she's shaming is speaking to a deaf person. One would think the Councilwoman would have compassion for people who can't hear at all and rely on lip-reading to get by.
Does Dr. Cori know if that officer (or anybody) has a medical condition that prevents him from wearing a mask? Could that officer have a form of PTSD that is triggered by wearing a mask? I think it's unfortunate that an elected official with oversight over CPD chose COVID shaming the officer in public, as opposed to working through the administrative channels available to her. I do wonder about the cover story about a concerned Coricrat calling our newly minted public health officer to the issue. Perhaps it was our "surfer savant" herself checking out the surf cam and accidentally seeing the officer. Whatever the case, the "snitch" was not there to interact with anyone. In fact, they were miles removed.
Does it bother anybody else that Cori and her sycophants are using a surf cam to shame others? There is a definite Pyongyang vibe to all of this, just like Cori stating she is going to go business to business playing COVID cop. I support trained officers and public health officials making certain that nobody who is supposed to be closed is operating and that those businesses left open are compliant.
If a legally sworn officer needs to arrest somebody, that is one thing. But is the same "Chokehold Cori" who opposed policing issues being put on the Council agenda planning to make Citizen's Arrests of alleged scofflaws? Perhaps the next step will be for the Councilwoman to form a Joe Arpaio- like posse, staffed by Tazer equipped Nextdoor leads and trolls from Wake Up Carlsbad? I'm certain these folks would love to see what the fuss about police brutality is all about.

For a person who cited public health orders to quell a peaceful protest, Cori's plan for vigilante justice and Chinese-style public shaming is not exactly respecting the letter of the law when it comes to the quarantine.
It seems that Cori's plan to keep us safe does not fit the definition of stay at home orders that only permit grocery shopping, going to work, going to the doctor, or exercising. It all seems rather vapid and hypocritical, especially at the end of a week where Cori's been called out for interest conflicts and bad behavior towards staffers at the City council and Clean energy alliance meetings.

I hope the Police Union is happy with their endorsement last March.
